Kildare supermarket theft woman had 103 previous convictions

A woman who was prosecuted at Naas District Court for theft at a supermarket had 103 previous convictions.
Eileen O’Toole, 37, whose address was given as no fixed abode, was prosecuted for an offence at the Tesco store at Dublin Road, Maynooth, on August 30 last.
Sgt Dave Hanrahan told the court the woman was detained by security and the items she took were alcohol, groceries and clothing.
The defendant, who appeared via videolink from detention, told the court she had been clean from drugs for three years.
She also said that she had had family issues and has attended drug counselling.
“I have been clean for three years (and) I want to put the past behind me. I have a partner who works during the week,” she said.
The woman also said that she wants to go back to college to study accountancy.
The court further heard that she is a qualified chef.
The court was also told that she is serving a sentence which expires in January 2023.
“She wanted to plead guilty, she wants to get this behind her,” defending solicitor Tim Kennelly told the court.
Judge Desmond Zaidan told the defendant he should jail her for two years.
But instead he imposed a six months term which will run with the term she is serving.
Her added this will mean she will still probably be released in January.
The judge added: “You won’t like me if you come before me again. I have been very lenient with you.”
