ALLEGATION

A County Kildare woman has been accused of assaulting a garda inside Newbridge Garda Station.

The allegations were heard at Naas District Court on Thursday, July 20 last.

Leanne Dowling, with an address listed as 64 Cedarwood Park in Newbridge, was accused of committing the offence on May 25 last.

Specifically, the 23-year-old is accused of committing an offence in contravention of Section 2 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997.

This provision of the Act reads as follows: "2.—(1) A person shall be guilty of the offence of assault who, without lawful excuse, intentionally or recklessly—

(a) directly or indirectly applies force to or causes an impact on the body of another, or

(b) causes another to believe on reasonable grounds that he or she is likely immediately to be subjected to any such force or impact, without the consent of the other."

Ms Dowling also submitted a guilty plea to a public order offence, which was committed on the same date as the alleged assault.

Presiding Judge Deirdre Gearty adjourned the case to November 16 to allow time for directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

She also adjourned the case to allow for sentencing in relation to the public disorder offence.
