A woman was dragged across a public park by a dog on the list of restricted breeds in Ireland.

Naas councillor Bill Clear  said that people sometimes own inappropriate pets and cited an example of a woman “being dragged across a park” by a Rhodesian Ridgeback. The incident took place at Monread Park in Naas.

Although the dogs are not actually banned they just be muzzled and on a lead in public at all times. The lead must be strong and short, not more than 2m long. The dog must wear a dog collar with the owner’s contact information on it and only adults over the age of 18 are allowed to own a restricted breed.

Meanwhile, it has been reported in the Irish Independent that Kildare County Council issued no fines for dogs without muzzles or being off a lead for the four years between 2019 and 2022.

It was claimed at a Kildare County Council meeting that dog owners across County Kildare are not doing enough to keep their dogs under control or form using public areas as toilets.

The increase in the number of outdoor amenity areas like greenway and blueway is attracting people with dogs which often leave their faces behind.

The county has two dog wardens and a population of  250,000.
