Concern expressed over the lack of urgency to tackle climate change

“Our grandchildren are being thrown under the bus.”

That was the comment made by Newbridge politician Noel Heavey, who said that the level of concern surrounding the consequences of climate change "seems to have slipped.”

Cllr Heavey told a Kildare County Council meeting that anything that can be done to make the issue a greater priority among the public should be undertaken.

He was responding to a call from independent councillor Pádraig McEvoy for KCC projects to be examined for any potential impact on climate change.

Cllr McEvoy said this should be done across the entire spectrum of KCC activities.

Cllr McEvoy said this would help to “to reduce emissions and to build environmental, social, and economic resilience in line with national climate action objectives.”

KCC official Marian Higgins welcomed the suggestion as something that would assist KCC’s efforts to tackle climate change and promote energy efficiency.
