Lack of lighting ‘is not helping’ the situation on this Kildare street

The claim was made by a councillor based in North Kildare
The lack of lighting on one County Kildare street "is not helping" with the presence of antisocial behaviour there.
The claim was made by Social Democrats councillor Paula Mulroe at the latest Clane-Maynooth Municipal District meeting, which took place on Friday, December 5 last.
While in attendance at this meeting, Cllr Mulroe motioned for Kildare County Council (KCC) to "conduct a full review and maintenance in Prosperous, in particular, the areas of the Main Street and Anne Street".
Her motion was seconded by Fine Gael Cllr William Durkan.
Speaking further on her motion, she emphasised to KCC that she had concerns regarding the presence of antisocial behaviour on Anne Street, and alleged that the lack of lighting there "is not helping" the situation there (Following the meeting, Cllr Mulroe clarified to the Leinster Leader: "I don't want to imply that it was residents of Anne Street, as we don't know for sure who was involved").
Replying to Cllr Mulroe's motion, KCC said via the report it presented at the meeting that it has initiated a review of this section of the road.
According to KCC, this will include:
- "Inspection of existing lighting infrastructure to confirm current lux levels and identify deficiencies
- "Assessment of compliance with safety standards for both motorists and pedestrians
- "Design and recommendation of improvements, which may include upgrading lighting or other measures to enhance safety"
