There has been a sharp increase in the number of patients on trolleys at Naas Hospital over the last 48 hours, reflecting a general increase across the country over the same period.

On Monday there were just seven people on trolleys in Naas, before the figure rose to 17 yesterday. That figure has since spiked to 24, and it remains in line with the general increases in numbers in hospitals throughout Ireland.

There are a total of 601 people on trolleys in Ireland today, a rise of 65 compared to the figure of 536 yesterday.

University College Cork Hospital reported a figure of 43 patients on trolleys this morning, while Tallaght had the second highest amount in the country with 41. Beaumont Hospital currently has 38 patients without proper beds, while the Mater Hospital and St James' Hospital have 23 and 28 respectively.
