Uisce Éireann said a major programme of water infrastructure upgrades is underway across Kildare, investing in projects designed to improve water supplies, strengthen network resilience and support the county's growing population.

The utility said the programme includes upgrades to water treatment plants, water mains, storage infrastructure and strategic network connections, alongside extensive leakage reduction and water conservation measures.

Projects are being delivered across Celbridge, Maynooth, Leixlip, Kilcock, Confey, Allenwood, Prosperous, Kilmeague, Derrinturn, Robertstown and surrounding areas.

Uisce Éireann said the works are aimed at improving the reliability of water supplies for existing customers while creating additional capacity to support future housing and economic development.

Among the major projects are upgrades to the Srowland, Leixlip and Ballymore Eustace water treatment plants, improvements to water networks in Maynooth, Leixlip, Poulaphouca, Kilcock and Newbridge, as well as the replacement and rehabilitation of ageing water mains.

John Joyce, Senior Portfolio Manager with Uisce Éireann, acknowledged that some communities have experienced water supply issues, particularly during periods of high demand.

"We know customers in parts of Kildare have experienced disruptions and frustration when water supplies come under pressure, particularly during periods of high demand. We appreciate the patience and understanding shown by local communities while we carry out these important improvements," he said.

Mr Joyce said the investment combines major infrastructure projects with targeted operational improvements.

"Across North Kildare, we are upgrading water treatment plants in Srowland, Leixlip and Ballymore Eustace, improving water networks in Maynooth, Leixlip and Poulaphouca, and carrying out extensive leakage reduction works in Celbridge, Maynooth, Leixlip, Allenwood, Kilmeague and surrounding areas.

"Together, these projects will strengthen supplies, improve network resilience, reduce water loss and support the homes, businesses and communities that depend on a reliable water supply every day, while enabling the delivery of new homes and continued economic development in the area."

Alongside the engineering works, Uisce Éireann crews are carrying out pressure management, valve inspections, network reconfiguration, leak detection and repairs across the county.

The utility said it is also continuing to plan for Kildare's long-term water needs through the Water Supply Project for the Eastern and Midlands Region, helping to ensure secure and resilient water supplies as the county's population continues to grow.
