Man cheating on his wife is not a reason to grant a court order - Kildare judge

‘He is drinking a lot of whiskey’
A man allegedly cheating on his wife is not a reason to grant an interim protection order.
That is what presiding judge Desmond Zaidan told the woman at Naas District Court.
The woman came to court seeking protection under family law legislation.
She also alleged that the man, who was not present or represented, had harassed her and was verbally abusive to her.
She further claimed he is “drinking a lot of whiskey” and he has insulted her friends and members of her family.
She said he had said that "knives would fly in the house” and he had called the gardaí.
The woman also stated that the man’s behaviour has escalated since January.
Judge Zaidan said he would grant an interim order - but added that the issues raised could be dealt with in the normal family law court, rather than by way of an emergency application.
He added: “Alleged cheating is not grounds for getting an interim protection order.”
