Man swung at woman and proceeded to assault two Kildare gardaí

ALLEGATIONS

It was alleged at Naas District Court on Thursday, October 12 that a man swung at woman and proceeded to assault two Kildare gardaí.

The court was told by Garda Sergeant Mary Meade that gardaí were called to the scene of a domestic dispute last year involving the man, who cannot be identified at present due to reporting restrictions imposed by Judge Desmond Zaidan.

Sgt Meade said that the man was discovered asleep on the couch of his ex-partner's home, and that their child was present in the house at the time.

When he was woken up by gardaí, he allegedly 'became belligerent' and started to take off his clothes and shout at gardaí.

It was heard that he swung a punch at his partner, and although he missed her, she fell over as a result of his alleged attempted assault.

Sgt Meade further alleged that the gardaí had to pepperspray the man, who kicked both of them before eventually being restrained by them.

"One of the guards was injured as a result of the assault," she told Judge Zaidan.

Judge Zaidan refused jurisdiction over the case, citing the serious nature of the allegations and adjourned it to a later date.

He also said that he would impose reporting restrictions on the case in order to protect the identity of the man and woman's child.
