Fund is for the construction or improvement of small non-public roads not normally maintained by the local authority

Local Fianna Fáil Minister James Lawless TD is reminding residents that the Local Improvement Scheme run by Kildare County Council is open to applications.

Minister Lawless said: “The fund is there for the construction or improvement of small non-public roads not normally maintained by the Local Authority in this instance Kildare County Council.

“The practice is for local homeowners or farmers, or other users of these roads make a small contribution for the cost of the road improvements and the Department of Rural and Community Development provide the balance of funding via Kildare County Council.”

He added: “The key point to remember is that a minimum of one of the applicants must be engaged in agricultural activities on a parcel of land accessed by the road in question.”

Minister Lawless said: “The point of contact for these grants is the Kildare County Council office in Naas or the website for further details.”
