More Kildare people getting the builders in for extensions

Families in Co Kildare are planning extensions instead of trading up to bigger properties.

Weekly planning applications to Kildare Co Council have seen a notable increase as households decide to get the builders in.

Many applicants usually want to add extensions to create an extra bedroom, a sun room, a porch or simply expand a kitchen.

Presenter of RTE's Room To Improve, architect Dermot Bannon (pictured) said in the past that his show is helping educate viewers about options in expanding their homes.

The latest list of planning applications published this week shows proposed structural changes to homes across the county.

Kildare Co Council planners usually give a decision on planning applications within two months.
