18-year-old Jamie Carroll from Naas is one of a number of volunteers distributing hot dinners, toiletries and sleeping bags to homeless people in Dublin.

Jamie is a member of the Homeless Mobile Run team which reach out to street sleepers every Wednesday and Sunday.

The Waterford IT student said: “Me and my mam got involved last February, so we’re doing it a year now. So, mam would start off cooking lasagna, then she’d bring it in and then I’d help serve it,” he said.

“I’d help with collections for clothes, toiletries etc, so at Christmas then I did another fundraiser and we got over €1,000 because we had like a Christmas party, " he told Dublin Live.

"There’s a barber in Naas called Hawk & Blade, they came in,  and then there was a band, The Rush, from Naas I used to go to school with they also came in."

Jamie has won a Garda Youth award for all his efforts in helping those in need.

He is studying Legal Studies student and hopes to become a Garda.

Jamie also did a a mental health first aid course last year with other volunteers so he is able to talk to someone suffering with mental health issues.

"All donations are welcome and are greatly appreciated.

"It doesn’t have to be money donations it can be any items you think our service users will need!

"100% of the donations go to the Homeless Mobile Run Sleeping Bag Appeal.

"€12 Donation can get one sleeping bag."
