Newbridge Drama Group announce auditions for new play

Auditions for Newbridge Drama Group’s Presentation of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest will take place in the coming weeks.

On Tuesday February 28, women are invited to audition while on Thursday, March 2 , men are encouraged to attend.

The auditions will take place in the Patrician Primary School, Newbridge from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm.

The play will be directed by Arthur Burke. All are welcome.

The group said the play has been praised as the "best comedy in the language.” Wilde himself said of it —"it is by a butterfly for butterflies and about butterflies

"The characters, while speaking the language of adults, are romping in the paradise of childhood. It is utterly innocent-while at the same time having great fun pricking the bubble of English self-importance and snobbery The normal definitions of love, marriage and social behaviour are turned upside down with gleeful irrelevance.”

One quote from the play always sparks a grin.

Lady Bracknell : "I have not seen dear Lady Harbury since her poor husband’s death. I never saw a woman so altered — she looks quite twenty years younger"
