Newbridge ladies rugby looking for new members as they make their return

Newbridge Ladies rugby team has relaunched after a seven year absence, the club based out of Rosetown are now on a campaign to bring in new members as they open their door players of all ages and abilities. Many of the members so far haven't played before and more are being encouraged to join a new sport and do the same.
One of the team members Charlotte Walker said, “We are a brand new team, with many players never having played before. It’s a great atmosphere with all of us learning together and a great way to get fit while learning a new sport and making new friends along the way.”
“One of the big things I would say is don’t judge it (rugby) before you try it. We are mainly beginners and those who have joined have fallen in love with the sport. It’s not as physically demanding as you may think and there are so many positions that suit all different shapes and sizes. We also have players anywhere from 18 to early 50’s that are playing with us.”
The team held a recruitment drive in WhiteWater Shopping Centre this past weekend as they look to build their squad ahead of the 2023 season later in the year.
The news is a big step for the club as they currently run U14 teams for girls and hope to add a U18 team also. All at the club see it as crucial that those younger players have a senior team to strive to get into in the future. The senior team will also ensure players don't have to move clubs for senior rugby opportunities.
“We just want to put the word out there that we are back in business and we want more people to come and put themselves out there,” Charlotte said.
Charlotte is one of just two players that has returned from the team that disbanded a few years ago. Meaning the rest of the squad is full of new recruits and they are looking for more as they look to re-establish ladies rugby in Newbridge.
“We want to get the ladies team back properly and the Newbridge men’s team have been brilliant but we reckon they have had the run of that clubhouse for long enough,” Charlotte joked.
The Newbridge ladies current season is in full flow but you can join at any stage. And if you are still concerned about your fitness levels before joining the side there will be mixed tag rugby running throughout the summer ahead of their next campaign.
More numbers are always welcome and if you are interested in a new hobby, challenge or just to meet great people you can join the Newbridge Ladies rugby team to train on Mondays & Wednesdays in Rosetown from 7:30pm - 8:45pm. All levels are welcome, especially beginners from age 17 and over.
