Plan to build €1.5m footbridge over River Barrow in Kildare

Location of the structure is in Rathangan
Kildare County Council is currently seeking tenders from contractors to construct a new pedestrian footbridge over the River Barrow in Rathangan as part of the Barrow Blueway scheme.
The location of the bridge is at Mullantine near the R414 road.
The structure, which has an estimated construction value of €1.5m, will include reinforced concrete foundations, abutments and piers, a steel footbridge superstructure and reinforced soil approach ramps.
The closing date for tenders is July 7.
This 46km Barrow Blueway route is running along the Grand Canal Barrow Line from Lowtown near Robertstown to Athy.
The project, which will also pass into Co Laois, aims to create jobs and new economic activity in the towns and village along the route.
Last month Kildare County Council received €3.9m to complete the scheme under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.
