A park and ride facility is coming to Kilcock in the near future, according to Kildare North TD Frank O'Rourke, who is confident that a new site will be secured for the service.

The Fianna Fáil TD believes that he has identified suitable areas to develop the facility, with a site close to the town centre in the best interests of all in Kilcock.

“I am confident that Kilcock will get its Park and Ride. Working with local business people in Kilcock, I have identified potential suitable sites for the park and ride facility, and Kildare County Council have confirmed that they are now focusing on securing a new site for the facility.”

“A site close to the town centre is a priority for all concerned so that we do not pull activity away from the town centre. The response from all relevant stakeholders, including land owners, that I have engaged with, is very positive.”

Deputy O'Rourke has stated that that a number of obstacles have been encountered along the way, but he remains confident that the council will soon secure a site to develop the facility on.

“Over the last year, I have worked with all stakeholders including Kilcock businesses, Bus Eireann and the council, to have a park and ride facility provided for Kilcock. We have encountered a number of obstacles along the way, but I now believe that Kildare Co. Co. will soon secure a suitable site,” stated Deputy O’Rourke.

“We continue to make progress on improving the public transport services for Kilcock commuters; with extra  services for Route 115, a fairer rail fare structure for Kilcock which is now included in the short hop zone, and a commitment for the provision of a park and ride facility in Kilcock.”

“Unless we provide the necessary infrastructure, such park and ride facilities, a regular and reliable service and affordable prices, we are only paying lip service to public transport. Having a park and ride facility in Kilcock will help provide that necessary infrastructure for a sustainable public transport service.”
