South East Greenway to open up for Kildare families next week

A new destination for Kildare families will become available next week when the South East Greenway in Wexford officially opens.
Minister of State in the Department of Transport and the Department of the Environment, Climate & Communications, Jack Chambers will take to his bicycle to launch the amenity on July 25.
The Southeast Greenway is a collaborative project being rolled out by Transport Infrastructure Ireland, the Department of Transport Tourism & Sport, Wexford County Council, Kilkenny County Council and Waterford County Council.
Once completed the South East Greenway will be a 24km Greenway which commences in New Ross, Co Wexford and traverses through South Kilkenny, into Waterford City connecting to the Waterford Greenway, which will result in a 72km Greenway along the South East of Ireland spanning New Ross to Dungarvan.
The three councils have committed funding of €5.3m towards the overall project costs of €13.3m, with a grant of €8m from the Department of Transport Tourism & Sport.
Works on phase 2 of the South East Greenway are already underway along with the development of an Urban Loop in New Ross.
The loop will offer a short walk, cycle route directly from New Ross town centre onto the Greenway and back, it will also feature lighting throughout in order to promote evening walk use year-round.
Failte Ireland has also come on board with the South East Greenway team and they will animate the project which will ensure a more exciting experience for users. In addition, Wexford County Council’s Arts office in partnership with the South East Greenway project team is working with visual artist Aoife Banville to develop a pilot project which will see a public art project for the Raheen to Glenmore section of the Greenway.
