APPEAL TO FOLLOW

A Kildare resident activated a previously-imposed suspended sentence on him.

Francis Lynch, with an address given as 48 Loughminane Green, Green Road in Kildare, appeared before substitute Judge Deirdre Gearty at Naas District Court on Thursday, July 20.

The 27-year-old appeared before the court in connection to three public disorder offences.

In the first instance, Mr Lynch was intoxicated and arrested by gardaí for his own safety at his home address on May 8 , 2022.

In the second instance, Mr Lynch, while drunk, told gardaí at Newbridge Garda Station to 'f**k off' on June 18, 2022.

Defending solicitor Joe Coonan said that when he sobered up, he apologised to gardaí for his behaviour.

In the third and final instance, Mr Lynch was seen banging on the doors of various houses within an estate located in Newbridge on March 12 last while drunk.

When gardaí confronted him, Mr Lynch became angry and threatened to 'box the heads off of them.'

It was heard that he has seven previous convictions, and had received a suspended sentence and was placed on a year-long probation bond in 2022 for a separate offence.

Mr Coonan told Judge Gearty that his client was a member of the Travelling Community, that his father had passed away early in his life, and said that all of the offences relate to alcohol, as his client has issues with alcohol.

He added that he is working with the probation services and gets on well with his probation worker, and has also completed a twelve-month rehabilitation programme to address his issues with alcohol.

In addition, he said his client no longer consumes alcohol.

Judge Gearty pointed out to Mr Coonan that his client had breached his bond, and as such, it would activate the suspended sentence.

She convicted him for this offence and sentenced him to serve two months in custody.

It was heard that Mr Lynch intends to appeal the judge’s verdict.
