Hundreds of cars use train station every day

A section of the railway bridge in Sallins may be taken away to improve access to the station.

According to local councillor Carmel Kelly, Iarnród Éireannis is willing to take away a section of the structure as well as resurfacing the road on the Naas side of the  bridge.

Cllr Anne Breen and Cllr Kelly called for a yellow box to be provided on the Sallins side of the bridge and Kildare County Council said the suitability of this will is to be assessed.

They say that works are needed on the Sallins side to increase the visibility for residents of Railway Cottages exiting on to the main road.

“Hundreds of cars go in and out of the station every day,” Cllr Kelly told a Naas Municipal District meeting.

She also said that many people also drive to the area to get access to the Supervalu store.

KCC indicated that work near the residences can only be done by Iarnród Éireann because “this location is not in the ownership of KCC.”
