The blaze could be seen from the M7 as well as the Curragh Camp, Brownstown, Suncroft as well as the Maddenstown Inn (Larkins) (pictured).

The Kildare Fire Service said: "We ask people to be extra vigilant during this hot spell as dry vegetation around the area can set alight easily.

"If smoking, ensure when finished that the cigarette is fully extinguished.

"Do not have a BBQ in undesignated areas.

"The Irish Farmers' Association have asked farmers to be extra careful and check all fire breaks and familiarise themselves with fire prevention methods after the Department of Agriculture issued a condition red extreme Forest fire warning.

"Enjoy the lovely weather but be safe doing so".
