Accident warning over faded paint on Laois crossroads

A Laois councillor is warning that accidents may happen due to faded line markings at a crossroads.
Two crossroads in need of being freshly painted, have been brought to the attention of Laois County Council.
Cllr Padraig Fleming tabled two separate motions to the November meeting of Graiguecullen Portarlington Municipal District.
One is in Barrowhouse, the other in Killeshin.
He explains that the Barrowhouse crossroads is a 4 crossroad junction, near the Kildare border. He said the centrre road white line markings at two of the junctions to the crossroads need repainting, "in the interest of health and safety".
Four crossroad junctions mean that drivers on every approach must stop and check before slowly moving forward, with no one road having automatic right of way.
"The markings have gone very skimpy and hard to see for motorists. Locals know they have to stop but if cars don't see it they might decide to pass them out and it could lead to an accident," he said.
The second four crossroads is at Ballyhide Cross. He also asks for the hedges to be cut.
"People tell me people are driving straight through. In one part a hedge is coming over a wall. I ask that you cut it. You have to go out over half of the road to know whether a car is coming or not. I want that done in particular," he said.
Laois County C9ouncil agreed to inspect and refresh each crossroads.
