Accused of assault at Midlands Prison

A man who appeared in court via video link from the Central Mental Hospital insisted he didn’t need a solicitor.

Alan Eillis, 31, of No Fixed Abode, is accused of assault at the Midlands Prison on February 17, 2020. 

Judge Andrew Cody asked the defendant if he had been in contact with his solicitor. 

“I don’t have a barrister or a solicitor,” the man replied. 

Suzanne Dooner BL said she had been in contact with the Central Mental Hospital in relation to the case. 

Judge Andrew Cody adjourned the case back to Portlaoise DIstrict Court on February 15.
