Action requested to tackle flooding on Laois road

Spot flooding leading to dangerous conditions, a meeting was told
Action is being taken to address flooding on a road between Killeshin and Newtown, a recent council meeting was told.
Fianna Fail Cllr Padraig Fleming asked in a motion: “That Laois County Council open up the water cuts on the R430 from The Swan to Newtown as there can be a lot of spot flooding on this road.”
He explained that floodwater on the road can be dangerous for motorists and the flood water is a particular hazard at nighttime.
In response, Senior Executive Engineer Philip McVeigh said: “Laois County Council has commenced water cuts between Killeshin and Newtown and these works will now continue along the R430 from Newtown to The Swan.”
The motion was seconded by Independent Cllr Aisling Moran at a monthly meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.
