Almost 2,000 properties without power in Laois

Almost 2,000 properties in Abbeyleix are without power this afternoon.

ESB networks confirmed they are repairing a fault which was reported shortly before 5.30pm and left 1,960 customers without power.

“We apologise for the loss of supply. We are currently working to repair a fault affecting your premises and will restore power as quickly as possible,” the ESB Networks stated. They estimated the power would be restored by 18.45pm.

Meanwhile, water remains out in Stradbally due to essential maintenance work. It’s understood the water was cut off without prior notice.

Irish Water/Uisce Eireann didn’t confirm or deny that the outage occurred without notice when asked.

“Essential maintenance works may cause supply disruption to Stradbally and surrounding areas in County Laois as works are scheduled to take place up until 8pm tonight (August 09). We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank customers and the community for their co-operation. Uisce Éireann continues to provide detailed, real-time, and local information about water service and supply issues on www.water.ie (reference no: LAO00081321),” a spokesperson stated when asked about the outage.
