Resident associations and groups around Laois are being invited to get their nominations entered for the prestigious "Best Kept Residential Area Award" as part of the esteemed Community and Voluntary Awards 2023.

Laois County Council says this category honours the remarkably hard work and dedication in residential areas throughout Laois, showcasing the unwavering pride people have in their own communities and the deep appreciation for the region's biodiversity.

The Council says the Best Kept Residential Area award is a testament to the commitment shown by Laois residents in maintaining the beauty and charm of their neighbourhoods.

It says the award acknowledges the countless hours of effort invested by community members to ensure that their residential areas thrive, fostering a strong sense of belonging and camaraderie among the residents.

The Council says it takes immense pride in the communities it represents and continually strives to champion the cause of environmental preservation. It says nomination for the Best Kept Residential Area award highlights the Council's dedication to fostering sustainable practices, protecting biodiversity, and creating a cleaner, greener, and healthier living space for all.

"We are honuored to seek nomination for the Best Kept Residential Area award at the Community and Voluntary Awards," said Suzanne Dempsey, Climate Action Coordinator of Laois County Council.

"This nomination is a testament to the collective efforts of Laois residents, who have demonstrated exceptional stewardship in preserving the beauty of their residential areas and the value of our precious biodiversity," she said.

The council adds that the award celebrates the aesthetic appeal of neighbourhoods and their active role in preserving natural heritage.

By promoting eco-friendly practices, responsible waste management and community-driven initiatives, the Council believes these areas have become sustainable and environmentally conscious beacons.

The Local Authority adds that as part of the Community and Voluntary Awards, this recognition reinforces the significance of community engagement and encourages more residents to actively participate in maintaining the well-being of their neighbourhoods. It is a platform to showcase the positive impact that grassroots efforts can have on building a stronger, more vibrant Laois.
