Laois County Council is urged to improve road safety in Raheen

A "blind corner" on a Laois road gets a lot of school traffic, and Laois County Council has been urged to do what it can to make it safer.

Labour Cllr Marie Tuohy has highlighted the danger at Carter's Cross in Raheen.

She tabled a motion on it to the December meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District. It asks the council to improve safety with new road markings and signage.

"I know it's limited what can be done. Carter's Cross is a blind corner. It gets a lot of school traffic. Anything that can be done will help," Cllr Tuohy said.

The district's executive engineer is Wes Wilkinson.

"The Portlaoise MD office will examine the roads in the vicinity of the junction of the L5679 and L2690 with a view to installing additional signage and roadmarkings".
