Laois County Council plan roadworks on Bridge Street

A town centre street in Portlaoise that follows Main Street is to soon close for five days during working hours in order for it to be resurfaced.

Laois County Council has announced the closure of Bridge Street, which begins from the Well Road junction at Hume's Pub, and ends at the roundabout junction with the N80 road at St Peter and Paul's Church.

The busy road which is a continuation of Portlaoise Main Street, will be shut to traffic from Monday, July 22 until Friday, July 26, during working hours, of 8am and 6pm.

The council plans to resurface the road, which is still covered with the uneven concrete pavers that had to be controversially recovered with concrete on Main Street some years ago after they began lifting up causing trip hazards.

The notice was placed on the council website on Monday, July 8.

“Laois County Council wishes to advise of the intention & decision to close the following road at the following location: Road: L-63101 Bridge Street, Portlaoise. From a point: Junction with Well Road. To a point: Junction with N80.

“On and/or between the following dates & times: 22/07/2024 08:00 and 26/07/2024 18:0 For the purposes of: Road Resurfacing Works”.

Traffic will be diverted along Well Road and James Fintan Lalor Avenue.
