Car drove over woman’s foot in Laois

A woman ‘dug a hole for herself’ due to her attitude, Judge Andrew Cody remarked after reading a probation report.
Emma Nevin, 33, with an address at 75 College Avenue, Mountmellick appeared in court accused of criminal damage, obstruction and threatening and abusive behaviour at College Avenue on September 19, 2021.
She appeared before Portlaoise District Court following the compilation of a probation report.
“Doesn’t take any responsibility. She is the victim and blames everybody else, “Judge Cody said.
Solicitor Philip Meagher explained that the charges had arisen over an incident when a car drove over the woman’s foot.
“She banged on the car,” he said.
Mr Meagher said his client suffers with mental health issues and they would underpin her attitude.
“She does regret the manner in which she dealt with the probation report,” said Mr Meagher.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the defendant had 15 previous convictions but he noted the most recent dated from 2014.
“She has been trouble free for a considerable number of years,” agreed Mr Meagher.
“She has dug a big hole, big enough for herself, blaming everybody else,” said Judge Cody.
Judge Cody fined the woman €100 for being threatening and abusive, €100 for obstruction and €100 for criminal damage. He allowed her three months to pay the fines.
