Child's buggy can’t be pushed on badly damaged Laois road

A young family can push a child’s buggy on the public road they live on because the structure is “completely gone”.
That’s the claim made by Cllr Conor Bergin, Fine Gael, in relation to the L-15123 at Curraghmore, Borris-In-Ossory.
He raised the road’s state of disrepair at a recent meeting with Laois County Council.
He tabled a motion calling on Laois County Council to carry out urgent road repairs in the interests of the safety of road users.
“You can barely walk it,” he insisted at the Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District meeting.
“The structure on the road is completely gone,” he said.
Cllr Bergin added that residents are impacted.
“There is a young family living on the road and they can’t even push a buggy up the road it is so bad. It is the only road in the area and there are other landowners (who use it),” he said.
Cllr Bergin said patching would not work because of the damage.
“If we could do something from the point of view of health and safety I would really appreciate it and I know that the people living there would appreciate it too,” he said.
Mr. Edmond Kenny, District Engineer, replied in writing.
“Maintenance crews will attend to this road in the coming weeks,” he told the April meeting held in County Hall Portlaoise.
