Cocaine seized in Portlaoise by gardai patrolling the rail network

Gardai seized cocaine and arrested a suspected drug dealer while patrolling the rail network in Portlaoise.
The patrols are part of Operation Scathlán which targets anti-social and illegal behaviour on the rail network. A second person was also arrested during the operation.
“Portlaoise Community Gardaí were out conducting proactive patrols today with Iarnród Éireann Irish Rail. Operation Scathlán aims to eliminate anti-social behaviour on our trains and in the train stations through high-visibility patrols and engagement,” Gardai said on Wednesday.
“During the patrols today detections under the Misuse of Drugs Act were detected. Two persons were arrested and one was detained under Section 15 Misuse of Drugs Act for the sale and supply of suspected cocaine,” Gardai added.
In recent months gardai have increased their presence across the rail network. They have also attended a seminar in Portlaoise with Irish Rail staff to discuss aspects of policing on the network.
