A road in a modern Laois housing estate has "completely sunk" and needs resurfacing, a local councillor claims.

Primrose Avenue is in Esker Hills, an estate built during the construction boom in Portlaoise.

Cllr Caroline Dwane described its condition.

"It has completely sunk, with traffic going over it. Pedestrians have to walk around it to go up the hill. The whole stretch needs to be included," she said.

Cllr Dwane Stanley has highlighted the need to resurface the road, along with one other outside Portlaoise town, the local road at Burnwood, Clonad.

That road she said needs drains.

"The whole road all the way along has too much water to be putting in gullys. The gullys can't take the water off that's needed.  I've put it down for the roads programme becaues there is drainage needed all along it. It needs resurfacing as well," Cllr Dwane Stanley said.

She tabled a motion to the December meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District  asking that both roads be considered for the 2023 roads programme by Laois County Council. The council agreed to examine them for consideration.
