Councillor told fence work is normally the responsibility of a homeowner

Boundary work is needed at a house near one of the most historic sites in Laois, according to a Laois county councillor.

Cllr John King, Fine Gael, wants Laois County Council to install new post and rail fence and repairs to a stone wall from the old pump to Ivan Harvey’s house across from Aghaboe Abbey monastic site Ballacolla to coincide with other works already completed.

He was backed by Cllr Ollie Clooney who said great work has been done by the Aghaboe Abbey Preservation Committee.

James Dowling, Senior Executive Engineer, in the Council’s Roads Section, said staff will meet Cllr King in Aghaboe site to examine the boundaries. He added that it is important to note that boundaries to roads are normally the responsibility of the landowner.

The issue was raised at a meeting of the Borris-in-Ossory Mountmellick Municipal District in County Hall.
