Council to clear litter on walkway near Portlaoise

A littered treelined local road near Portlaoise is to be cleaned up by Laois County Council staff.

Cllr Willie Aird tabled a motion to the February meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District, asking them to clean the wooded area along the linear walk in Clonad, next to the N77 Abbeyleix Road.

Absent from the meeting, he had requested it be heard in his absence. Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald proposed it and Cllr Thomasina Connell seconded.

“A great job was done before with the fence. Unfortunately litter is gathering again,” Cllr Fitzgerald said.

Local engineer Wes Wilkinson agreed that maintenance and a litter pick will be carried out by the council on the L-26961 next to the amenity area.
