The incident occurred after the man was refused entry to a pub in Portarlington

A man with significant issues became frustrated and kicked and punched a hairdresser's shutters after being refused entry to a pub.

Szymon Zdrajkowski (22) of 11 Foxcroft Street, Portarlington, pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage to Katoka Hair Salon, Main Street, Portarlington on January 16, 2026.

Solicitor Barry Fitzgerald told a sitting of Portlaoise District Court that his client, who caused €200 damage to the property, had significant issues including ADHD and aspergers. He said a probation report had been prepared and compensation was available.

“He was refused entry to a pub adjacent to the property he damaged,” said Mr Fitzgerald.

“He got very irate and took out his frustration by damaging this property,” he explained.

Mr Fitzgerald said his client had no previous convictions and had no grudge against the business owner.

Judge Andrew Gubbins noted “it was business premises as opposed to a home” that was damaged. He convicted the man and fined him €200 allowing him six months to pay.
