A celebration of life is being held for a Galway local who died suddenly while on holiday.

Ed Davis, described as “one of the nicest people ever” by the Blackrock Tower Diving Community, died while in Australia at the start of October.

Jean Anne Davis is inviting friends and family to celebrate Ed’s life in Salthill to remember the man in a way which he would have loved.

She said: “At last we have Eddie back home with us again. We invite family and friends to celebrate Ed’s full and wonderful life at Blackrock Diving Tower Salthill, on 14th November, at 11am.

“The outdoor gathering maybe brief if the weather is wild, but we can enjoy a warm cuppa and place to linger, chat & remember Ed afterwards at Salthill Hotel, Aran suite, from 11:30am.”

In a statement on their page at the start of this month, the Blackrock Tower Diving Community said it was with “great sadness that we have learned of the passing of one of our stalwart swimmers.

“Ed Davis passed away suddenly while on holidays in Australia. Our thoughts are with his family. May Ed, Rest in Peace.

News of Ed’s death has sent shockwaves throughout the swimming community in Salthill with people remembering him as a complete gentleman who had a true presence.

One close friend said: “So very sorry to hear the news today. Ed Davis might just have been one of the happiest gentlemen I've known. Always so optimistic, caring, kind and a great laugh to be around. Rest in peace Ed. Much love to your beloved family at this incredibly difficult time.”

Another added: “This is so sad. What a kind and caring gentleman who had time for everyone. My thoughts are with his family.”
