Dog bag dispenser runs foul of Laois residents

A dog bag dispenser on the Numbers Road in Graiguecullen has been requested to be taken out, because it is doing the opposite of its job.

Dog walkers are using the dispenser as a bin instead, to throw in their filled dirty dog bags, with some missing the mark and leaving waste on the ground according to Cllr Ben Brennan.

He asked Laois County Council to remove the Mutt Mitt dispenser, of which there are now over 75 around the county offering free plastic bags to dog walkers caught short.

“People are asking me to take it away altogether. The dog foul is falling out on the path and people are walking around it. It's being vandalised. It's not used for what it's there for.

"People on the Numbers Road and in Tommy Murphy Park are asking us to take it away,” he reported to engineer Philip McVeigh at the March meeting of the Portarlington Graiguecullen Municipal District.

Mr McVeigh had listed council works done in Graiguecullen since the previous meeting. This included footpath cleaning, litter picking and landscaping of roundabouts on the Northern Relief Road, gully grate repairs in Oakley Park and street sweeping.
