Driver arrested in Laois after cannabis discovery

A male driver in Laois has been arrested after being caught with bags of cannabis and without motor tax for over a year.

The Laois Offaly Garda Division's Laois Roads Policing Unit made the arrest over the weekend of August 12 and 13.

The Gardaí had stopped a vehicle as the tax was found to be out 407 days. The NCT was also out of date.

They report that there was "a strong smell of cannabis from the vehicle".

A search of the vehicle was then carried out which revealed several bags of cannabis.

The driver then failed a roadside drug test.

He was arrested and a blood specimen was taken at the station. Gardaí say that a court prosecution will follow.
