Dublin riot stops Laois Palestine peace walk in Portlaoise

Organisers took advice from Gardaí on pro-Palestine event
A Peace walk in Laois organised for Portlaoise has had to be called off following consultation with gardaí and local authorities, according to one of the main orgainsers.
Naeem Iqbal, who was among the organisers of the pro-Palestine event, issued a statement on November 25 the day before the event was due to take place on behalf of the organisers. The Fianna Fáil local election candidate confirmed to the Leinster Express / Laois Live that the event was called off due to the impact the riots in Dublin.
"In light of recent events and advice from an Garda Siochanna and the local authorities, the planned peace walk for Sunday (26/11/2023) has been postponed. A future date will be planned.
"Thank you all for your continued support, if anyone would like to continue to donate you can do via Irish Palestine Support Campaign (IPSC) website or directly to the Laois IPSC branch.
"We will continue to organise events in the future and volunteers are welcomed to continue our efforts for our brothers and sisters in Palestine," said the statement.
It is understood that there was immediate nervousness about the event among the organisers in the wake of the riots in Dublin that followed the stabbings of children and their teacher in Dublin.
