Gardai called to disturbance outside Portlaoise pub

A man was warned to be careful after he appeared in court accused of being drunk in Portlaoise.
Patrick Fitzpatrick, 33, of Rossleighan, Portlaoise was arrested when gardai were called to a disturbance at Humes Bar on Main Street in Portlaoise on May 1 last.
Sgt JJ Kirby said when gardai arrived at 11.20pm the defendant was standing in the Main Street outside the pub. “He was being held by a number of males,” he said. Sgt Kirby said the man had no previous convictions whatsoever.
Solicitor Philip Meagher said his client would claim his brother had been attacked and he was standing up for him. He said that was the reason he came to garda attention.
Judge Michelle Finan said she would strike the matter out if the accused donated €100 to St Vincent de Paul. The money was paid during the sitting of Portlaoise District Court.
