Give thanks to the new Laois trad fab four - Buíoch
Local trad band Buíoch have just released their self-titled debut album of original compositions called 'BuÍoch' and are really looking forward to showing of their new tunes at a release show at The Dunamaise Arts Centre later this month.
Featuring musicians Ruadhrí Tierney (accordion), Dale McKay (guitar & percussion), Kurt Dinneen Carroll (whistle & pipes) and Dave Harte (double bass).
They started off life as three piece releasing their first material in 2021. They subsequently became a five piece when Kurt and Laura Doherty joined last summer but Laura left and they are now rocking it as a fab four!
Buíoch say they compose and arrange all their own melodies, which gives the band a traditional yet progressive sound that is unique and energetic.
Buíoch is the Irish word for ‘Thankful’ and they believe their band typifies the meaning behind their name.
They say they are deeply grateful and humbled to play music and perform. They are also thankful for the help they've got in getting to the stage of releasing their new record which was partially paid for through a fundraising gig in Kavanagh's Portlaoise in April 2023.
“We just want to say thank you to all our families, friends and supporters, without your continued support this would not be happening, we are very grateful,” they said on Facebook.
The album release follows on quickly from their first single called Harte of the Band, in July this year. It is named in honour of Double Bass player Dave Harte as they put it 'the harte of the band'.
The Dunamaise launch gigs come as part of a tour which has seen the lads play at the Fleadh Cheoil in Mullingar. Dates at UL and UCC are also pencilled in.
But they've also performed at two of Ireland's biggest festivals which happen to be staged in Laois.
They were on the bill of the World Stage at the 2022 Electric Picnic and also performed at this year's Forest Fest in Emo.
They'll be taking to the stage of the Dunamaise Arts Centre on Saturday, August 26 at 8pm. Tickets €12 to €15 or €10 for music students. Tickets can be purchased at www.dunamaise.ie
The student tickets are available from the Box Office only.
Buíoch hope everyone will head to their website to purchase a copy of our new album featuring all newly composed Irish Traditional melodies which they are very proud. https://www.buiochtrad.com/
