'Nervous, but excited' Laois woman about to launch her first book Cancer, Chaos & Courage

Laois woman’s first book Cancer, Chaos and Courage will be launched in her own Portarlington community.
A Laois woman living with Stage 4 cancer has become an author, and is about to hold her book launch in her town.
Portarlington mother Avril Tierney found strength in her own background in psychotherapy and counselling to adjust to her life with cancer.
She is on treatment that has thankfully limited her cancer to the level of NED (no evidence of disease).
A campaigner for Breast Cancer Ireland, she gives talks and workshops on resilience and finding hope during life's most difficult moments. Read more on Avril’s cancer journey here.
Her new book, ‘Cancer, Chaos and Courage’ aims to be a companion for anyone navigating a chronic illness, or carrying the weight of grief and loss after an unexpected turn.
‘Cancer, Chaos and Courage’ will be launched on September 4 in the beautiful surrounds of the restored Portarlington Market House, at 6pm.
Avril told the Leinster Express / Laois Live that she is really looking forward to the launch of her printed book, when she will be meeting the public and signing copies for them.
“It feels like the book is real now. When it’s just available online and preorder, its obviously really exciting, but it’s only when you see the physical book which I’ve now received, it makes it very real.
“I’m nervous as well. I’m nervous that I’ll be judged, or people won’t like the book, about people reading my story. But excited too. I’m looking forward to sharing it with the local community here in Port,” Avril said.
The evening will include several speakers, followed by a light interview with Avril.
The books will be available to buy on the night, with BuytheBook.ie processing the sales, by card only.
