'Incredible' speed over narrow twisting railway bridge in Portlaoise

Danger warning signs requested on Laois road railway bridge
Danger warning signs are needed on a narrow railway bridge on the outskirts of Portlaoise, where the speed of traffic is "incredible".
Fianna Fáil Cllr Catherine Fitzgerald has requested the works, for the bridge at Rathnamanagh.
The local road is near to heavily built up residential areas and busy schools at Rathevan and the Borris Road.
With barely room for two cars on it, it also has a sharp turn and steep hill on each side leading to poor driver visibility.
"There are no signs. It's just the speed going over the bridge. No-one seems to be slowing. It's just incredible," Cllr Fitzgerald said.
She tabled a motion to the April meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District, and asked for danger signs on both sides of the bridge.
Laois County Council will now examine the road in the vicinity of the bridge, "and will make arrangements to install warning signs as appropriate".
