Jail sentence for eleventh no insurance conviction

A jail sentence was handed down to a man who was caught driving without insurance for an eleventh time.
Jordan Colsh, 24, of The Heath, Ballydavis, Portlaoise admitted driving without a licence or insurance at Station Court, Portarlington on June 10, 2022. He also admitted having a small amount of cannabis at Droughill, Portarlington on October 15 last.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the defendant was disqualified at the time of the offence in Portarlington. He said the man had 34 previous convictions including ten for no insurance.
Defence Counsel Suzanne Dooner said her client is currently looking for work. She described him as a young gentleman who “lost his way” but appears to be improving since becoming a father.
Judge Andrew Cody sentenced the man to six months in prison for driving without insurance and six months for having no licence. The charge of cannabis possession was taken into account. He fixed recognisance in case of appeal.
An appeal was lodged by the defendant a short time later.
