An astonishing performance from O’Moore’s Mary Keating put them on the road to victory as they had seven points to spare over Camross in the Intermediate League decider in the LOETB Centre of Excellence on Sunday afternoon.

The game was played with grey skies overhead as rumbles of thunder echoed around Portlaoise. Referee Kieran Bowe called over the two managers at half-time to say that if lighting was to strike then the game would be halted in the interest safety for both sets of players. Luckily, the lighting stayed away and the rain only fell as the O’Moore’s girls were celebrating.

O’Moore’s 1-10

Camross 0-6

The contest bursted into life in the opening minute as Camross’ Aoife Daly opened her account with a well-taken score from her position at centre-forward. Keating got her side on the scoreboard as she too pointed from her position in the half-forward line.

Daly was proving to be Camross’ main scorer as she once again raised a white flag from play for Arien Delaney’s side. Hannah O’Connor levelled the game early on she dissected the posts. O’Moore’s then hit the front with three scores unanswered as Derbhile C Fennell and two more points from Keating.

Andrea Scully stopped the O’Moore’s onslaught with a splendid score from the sideline. O’Moore’s held a two-point lead at the break with Amy McKane and Laura Peake both raising white flags before referee Kieran Bowe blew for half-time.

The second period began in the best way possible for Dermot McGill’s side as Keating was to the fore again with a cracking finish into the back of the Camross net to raise a green flag. Camross fired back with two points on the bounce as Kirsten Keenan pointed a 45’ while Daly got her third point of the contest to reduce the deficit to five points.

Keenan got her second point from placed balls as she struck a 45’ over the black spot. Camross knew they needed goals but they weren’t forthcoming as Aoife Donovan batted away every effort that came near her goals.

O’Moore’s pointed the last score of the game as O’Connor got her second of the contest to secure the league title for her side.
