Key meeting in Laois community to update locals on a plan for derelict school

Future developments in Ballyroan including the use of an old school are set to be outlined to local people at an upcoming meeting.
Ballyroan Community Development Association has scheduled an Extraordinary General Meeting on Thursday, June 1 in the Community Centre at 8pm.
The Association said the main purpose of this meeting is as follows
- To advise of the changes to the structure of the current organisation.
- To provide an update on plans to re-develop the Old Boys School site at the top of the village with the inclusion of a Playground and recreation area.
- Provide information regarding the various organisations in the village and surrounding areas that are working towards developing other aspects and amenities in the area in order to improve community life for the present and future generations.
The Association recent invited companies to tender for the plan for the village which would include the potential demolition of the old village school. The building fell into dereliction not long after it was vacated following the building of a new school in recent years.
The Association says new members are always welcome to join and any member of the community who would like to get involved, can come along to the meeting and join up. The subscription fee is €5 per person.
