Camross needs volunteer marshals for childrens weekend events

Camross is the latest Laois community to join the Park Run movement, but they need your help to get the initiative off the start line.

The organisers say that every Sunday at 9.30 am, they are planning to invite children to Camross Community Park to participate in a junior 2km  Park Run. This is where they say you can make a real in the latest Laois sports event difference by becoming a marshal on the course.

To run a junior parkrun, marshals are needed at least every 100 metres and always within sight of each other.

They say this isn't just a guideline but is crucial for children's safety, as every marshal makes sure no child gets lost or ends up in a difficult situation.

It's also important for support and motivation, as marshals are there to cheer, encourage, and create the fun and inspiring atmosphere that Park Run is known for.

It's also vital for organisational reasons, as only with a full team of marshals can the event be run for children and their families.

"Without our marshals, the run cannot go ahead. That's how vital your role is. Without you, the chain of safety is broken. You can help even just once or become part of our regular volunteer crew. MORE BELOW PHOTO.placeholder image

"It's perfect for parents, students, retirees, or anyone who wants to make a positive impact in the local community," say the organisers.

Volunteer marshals are vetted to work with children, and volunteers can be helped through the process.

To get involved, the organisers ask that you message them directly via their facebook page.

"Become part of the team that makes Sunday mornings truly special," they say.

At least 15 people are needed as volunteers. Once enough people are signed up the organisers will annouce a start date.

Park Runs have grown internationally in recent years with Vicarstown one of the locations in Laois that holds a weekly run.

The Park Run internatinoal movement says junior parkrun is a free, fun, friendly, weekly, community event organised by volunteers of all ages for children aged 4 to 14.
