Laois councillor 'didn't mean to offend' with transgender comment

A Laois councillor has said he 'didn't mean to offend anyone' with his negative comment on transgender identity.
Sinn Féin Councillor Aidan Mullins issued a post this week on his Facebook page that has brought a public backlash, however he is standing by his belief he said.
His post said "To me, a woman is an adult human female. If this offends you, then you're the one with the problem."
Speaking on local radio, Cllr Mullins said he has not problem apologising.
"It emanated from a lot of commentry, a lot of discussions that people are having at the moment around the whole area of gender identity. I was giving my opinion to emphasise my belief that I suppose a person's biological sex emphasises what they are over their gender".
According to Midlands 103 Radio, Cllr Mullins said he "fully supports transgender people, and has no problem apologising to anyone that takes offence from the comments".
His comment sparked arguments in the comments on his social media page, around the area of transgender males playing in women's sports.
