Laois gardaí fine driver for parking on footpath

Gardaí say vulnerable footpath users are being forced onto the road by motorists parking on paths
Gardaí issued a warning to motorists who park on footpaths after they fined a driver in Laois.
They posted an image of a car which was partially blocking a footpath in Rathdowney.
“Gardai from Abbeyleix Garda Station were on patrol in Rathdowney over the weekend when they saw a pedestrian that was pushing a buggy had to step out onto the road into oncoming traffic to get by,” gardaí said.
They issued an €80 fine to the owner of the car for blocking the footpath.
“Parking on footpaths puts vulnerable pedestrians, such as wheelchair users and those pushing buggies, at significant risk by forcing them off the footpath and into traffic,” gardaí said.
