Gardaí expect an increase in 'rogue traders' as the weather improves

Gardaí seized a van and issued a warning about rogue traders operating in Laois.

They posted an image of a vehicle they seized and issued the following advice under title of ‘bogus callers”.

“Mountrath Garda recently seized one such group seizing the vehicle under Section 41 RTA.Offences under Revenue and Customs being investigated also,” gardaí stated.

“With the improvement in the weather there is no doubt there will be an increase in bogus callers and rogue traders calling to our homes. They will be offering services such as powerwashing, painting, selling goods etc. We have one in particular that returns to people previously visited,” they said.

“They prefer to target the more vulnerable and persons living alone. We advise and encourage people not to engage with such callers. Don't open your door to anyone before you have checked who it is and what they want. They can be intimidating and refuse to take no for an answer. We ask you to be vigilant when out and about and report suspicious persons/vehicles to us immediately. Please pass this advice on to those in our community that may not follow our page,” Gardaí said on their social media.

In conclusion, gardaí advised people that if they had any doubt to keep the caller out.
