The captains arrived in style
The Captains' Drive-In took place at The Heath Golf Club on March 23. Captains Charlie Gallagher and Theresa Boyle arrived in style in their Barbie Buggy.
After the toasts the two Captains showed off their golfing skills followed by members participating in a 9 hole scramble that concluded with lunch and prize-giving.
Charlie is a native of North East Donegal and was first introduced to the game while caddying at Rosapenna Golf Club on the Old Tom Morris course, near the village of Downings.
He left Donegal for Dublin in the early seventies to study Agricultural Science in UCD. While enjoying the social aspect of college Charlie met his wife Liz who is also a member of the club.
Charlie joined the Heath Golf Club in the early 1980’s and enjoys the challenge of the inland links course every time he plays. He played off a handicap of 10 at one point in his career.
Lady Captain Theresa Boyle, is a native of Portlaoise and spent many years working in Dublin. In a previous life she played basketball, badminton and participated in mini marathons.
Theresa completed the Get into Golf Programme in the Heath Golf Club in 2015 and then joined as a member.
She has served as Competitions Secretary and has been a member of the Ladies Committee for 4 years. As Vice Captain she coordinated the Get into Golf Programme in 2023.
Theresa says that “as Lady Captain I hope to promote membership of the Heath Golf Club. It’s a great honour and privilege for me to represent the Heath Golf Club as Lady Captain for 2024 and look forward to welcoming new and existing members to our various events in 2024.”
